Draymond Green Is Right, the NBA All-Star Game Sucks
You know we’re all in deep trouble when Draymond Green has become the voice of reason.
The brash, loudmouth, nut-kicking former All-Star served as an analyst for TNT’s coverage of the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday. Similar to his playstyle on the court, Green did not pull any punches.
After “Team Chuck’s Global Stars” defeated “Kenny’s Young Stars” in some weird scrimmage, Green popped off on set.
“Now we get the treat of watching the Olympic play against a U19 team,” Green said. “Come on, what are we doing? This is ridiculous."
On a scale of 1-10, Green rated this new, confusing All-Star format a zero. Most fans agree with him. Because regardless of your opinions on Green, it’s impossible to ignore just how right he is.
The NBA is getting absolutely dumpstered right now by the NHL’s All-Star Weekend. The 4 Nations Face Off has been lightyears more entertaining than whatever we’ve been subjected to in the Association. We’ve all heard the chatter that ratings are down, and this weekend surely won’t help the NBA get any more eyeballs.
Some wonky, confusing bracket. Kevin Hart showed up and told Shaquille O’Neal that he was dressed like a porn director. Mr. Beast gave away $100,000 in a cringey shooting contest with Damian Lillard during a break. Oh yeah, and the best players in the sport are not even participating in what used to be considered a great event.
LeBron James surprised everyone late Sunday afternoon when he ruled himself out at his media availability due to his foot and ankle soreness. Anthony Edwards is dealing with a groin injury and was not replaced. He also has a cold. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who already backed out of participating in next year’s dunk contest, was a no-go as well.
The NBA All-Star Game has completely lost the plot.
Much has been said about the entire weekend. At least Saturday night had some memorable moments. Mac McClung’s three-peat and slam dunk over a Kia. The San Antonio Spurs cheating in the Skills Challenge. Sunday has had nothing redeemable.
This entire Sunday needs an overhaul. There’s no nostalgia at all now that the East vs. West format is done. The stars don’t care. There are no highlight-worthy plays. This once-memorable night that basketball fans would look forward to every single year has completely lost its shine.
The All-Star Game, as the great prophet Draymond Green said, sucks.
